Get a Library Card

We welcome everyone to use our computers and Wi-Fi, enjoy our facilities, and attend library events. However, a valid Spencer County Public Library card is required in order to borrow our materials. Cards can be obtained at the circulation desk. The applicant must be present and complete a brief application form. Applicants or their parent/guardian must show an approved form of identification.

Who is Eligible for a Library Card?

All residents and anyone who owns land, works, or has children who attend school in Spencer County are eligible for a Spencer County Public Library card free of charge. Proof of address and a valid photo ID are required. Temporary residents who wish to use the library are required to pay a yearly fee of $25.00 per person or $50.00 for a family to obtain a library card. The fee is a contribution to the library in place of paying taxes. A photo ID and proof of address, both temporary and permanent, are required. US Military Personnel will not be charged the temporary residents’ fee for cards. Alternatively, eligible individuals may apply for a Digital-Only account online.

Get A Digital Services Card

A Digital Services card offers access to the library’s digital resources. Those eligible include Spencer County residents who wish to use only use the library’s digital materials. 

To check out physical materials, please visit the library and do not fill out a Digital Services card application. Patrons who have a Spencer County Public Library card already in the system have access to all digital and print materials. Cards take up to a week to process. Approved applicants will receive an email with their new digital card number and pin.

Digital Services Card Application

A Digital Services card, offering access to the library's databases and e-media, is available to those who are ineligible for a free library card. Those eligible for a Digital Services card would include temporary residents and residents who wish to use only the materials in the library's digital branch. 

A Digital Services card may be changed into a regular library card if the user becomes eligible for a free card or pays the non-resident fee. Patrons who have a Spencer County Public Library card already in the system are not eligible for a Digital services card.

Cards take up to a week to process. You will receive an email with your new digital card number and pin.
